The Olympics Are Over?

I know it has been a while since I posted something on Books & Things. It's just been a crazy two weeks. It's the first day back after reading week and, naturally, Monday. So everyone is trying to get back into the swing of things. Getting back to reality can be tough, but can you imagine being one of the incredible athletes who just spent two-ish weeks in Sochi competing in the 2014 Olympic games! Having to head back home must be wonderful and yet terribly sad. When you prepare for over 4 years for something and then have it go by so quickly, I mean, that has to be tough. Hold on to and cherish every moment guys; life goes by quick. Basically I'm just saying: I can't believe the games are already over, and I didn't even compete! Mind you, it feels like Vancouver 2010 just happened, so who am I to say.

The winter Olympics are my favourite; I mean I truly love them. Hockey, Figure Skating, Skiing, Snow Boarding, Curling...what's not to love? I have such a love hate relationship with Winter, but the year of the Olympics just heightens my love for it. The beauty that comes from the games is immeasurable. The unity within your home country is such a beautiful and wonderful thing. The games bring people together and unify people with one common goal: to be the best. While competition between countries also springs from this, it also unifies the world. For two weeks almost the entire world basically stops to cheer, support, encourage and believe in their country and their athletes. Not only that but the athletes support each other, whether they are from the same team or not. There is an incredible unity there simply because they are there together. Now I've never been to the games or anything, I'm just speaking from what I have gathered watching from home. And to me, the Olympics are a beautiful thing.

I just want to take this time to congratulate all of the Olympians. You're all incredible and truly an inspiration. Of course, being Canadian, I have to give a shout out to my Canadian athletes: You've done us proud, Well done!
See you in 2018!
