NaNoWriMo

Well, it has begun. What is this you ask? Or maybe you already know? Either way November is National Novel Writing Month. Essentially writers participate to try and write a 50, 000 word novel in a month. Start to finish. One month. GO.

You sign up online, track your progress, and create a community online of crazy novelists trying to finish in time. It sounds absolutely insanely stressful; I can't imagine doing this while in school. I can barely keep up with my already written 8,500 word novel. With that said, I want to do it. Maybe not this year (which I said last year). So maybe when I'm done school.

If you are interested in writing I encourage you to check it out. Amazing Authors give pep talks throughout the process. The goal is simply to get writing, get out there and use your voice. Afraid you are not very good? Doesn't matter. The time pressure relieves that worry. Just get that first draft done and proceed to edit after. And really, if you fail you are well on your way to writing something incredible anyways. In which case you win. Unless you sign up and write a page...then you can't really say you win. It is also an amazing publishing opportunity. From what I understand it can work as networking. I mean Water For Elephants  by Sara Gruen stemmed from this; how bad could it be?!

I am definitely one of those writers who edit and re-edit everything as I write; so the time restraints of just getting the draft done and not worrying about quality would probably do me good. Sometime soon I will do this.Anyways, check out the NaNoWriMo page, mull the idea around and do some brainstorming. Even if you choose not to do it, try writing something anyways.  Anything. Use your voice, it's important.
