Okay? Okay.
The Novel The Fault In Our Stars by John Green has taken over the world. Literally the love for this story is everywhere. The book is adored and the film (finally!) comes out today! If you don't know what I'm referring to you must have been living under a rock or with blinders on or something. Here's the Trailer for you to become informed.
The back of the book describes the story as such:
The back of the book describes the story as such:
Despite the tumor shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's Story is about to be completely re-written.
I saw the trailer months ago and knew I just had to see it, and of course I had to read the book first. I read it in a matter of maybe 5 or 6 hours; I couldn't put it down. And when I did put it down I didn't know what to do with myself. I had to go to work and pretend like I hadn't just had my heart ripped out at the hand of a paperback. It was tough.
The story is about two cancer patients who fall in love, but it's not about cancer or dying. It's very much about life. It's incredibly raw and real. The characters jump from the page and their blossoming relationship is really the heart of the story. You can easily relate to John Green's writing and the way he creates this world that Hazel and Augustus live in. It has been such a long time since I have read a novel that I couldn't put down and cried as hard as I did. I can easily say that John Green hit something home for me. He inspired me with his work. He reminded me why I love reading and writing as much as I do. And for that John, I thank you.
As I said the movie finally comes out today. With Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort as the leads we love the story takes on the realest form of beauty. I haven't see it yet, but I know that when I do I will be bringing an entire box of tissues for myself.
This book is gorgeously constructed with the most incredible combination of everything you could hope for in a story. There is humour, love, grief, happiness, sadness, and Green intricately and flawlessly blends them all together. The story asks questions we all want to answers to but can't ever really know and despite the situation that these kids face they have an incredible amount of hope and take on everyday with a smile and pride. Augustus helps Hazel find her real story through her cancer story and changes her perspective of the world while helping each other through their deserved anger. Together they know they have one chance for a first real love and they grab the chance when it happily limps into their lives.
I'm going to stop now. For one thing I'm probably going to cry and for another I could ramble on about this forever. This beautiful movie is out tonight and the novel is in every bookstore, everywhere. Go get it, see it, enjoy it and fall in love all over again. Okay? Okay.
"As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly and then all at once"
