Pay Attention to the World

Happy Saturday everyone! The daylight has run out; what did you do today? It is snowing here in Guelph and it is a beautiful sight. It's unbelievable how much we miss simply because we have some sort of technology stuck in our faces for the majority of the day. So tell me, what did you notice about your day? Did you experience the joy of simply being out and about, surrounded by others and their (potential) excitement for the day? Did you notice the crunch of new snow and old  ice under your favourite winter boots? Or perhaps the contagious smiles of the bus driver when you got on the bus? Whatever it is that you noticed, I'm glad that you did. It's these little things that you notice that make the day a great one, for you and for those around you. I've decided to start something new; I'm unplugging for a bit. Trying to really get into my school work and enjoy it. My housemate said something to me the other day that really stuck. She gave me three things she is going to balance her life with : Being healthy(eating and exercise), school, and fun. While this could sound simple and obvious, balancing these is harder than it sounds. But they really go hand in hand. Focusing on yourself and everything that will make you the healthiest, happiest version of yourself is key. Always being available and stuck to your phone is exhausting. So is needing your computer 24/7 and watching TV instead of  reading something, even something for pleasure.
So what I propose to you is that you unplug a bit too. I understand it isn't easy and perhaps you do need your computer or phone for things. But I can promise that it is worth paying attention to the world around you; and you don't have to be a writer to do that. We're going to need some self-control, motivation and inspiration, but it's all about creating the best you that you can. And it is for that reason alone that I know we can do this. I started my day with a walk in the snow, it was gorgeous and got me going. I had my music playing and I set out with the goal to enjoy everything around me. I found myself humming, and smiling to myself, while also noticing how the lightly the snow was falling, and the way I created new footprints in the snow. It was a great way to start the day and I plan on doing it every day! I hope you find something to inspire you to get going and get out there to experience the world. There is so much out there to see and do; go discover what it is that is out there!
